The Processes4Planet (P4Planet) Partnership is a European public-private initiative, formed between the European Commission and A.SPIRE, aiming to transform process industries to achieve climate neutrality and circularity by 2050, while boosting global competitiveness.
P4Planet has three main goals:
- Developing and deploying climate-neutral solutions
- Closing energy and resource loops through a sustainable circular business model
- Achieving global leadership in circular and climate-friendly innovations to drive investment, economic growth, and skilled job creation
The ICO2NIC project, launched in January 2025, is part of the P4Planet partnership. The ICO2NIC strategy aims to reduce CO2 emissions and energy use by capturing industrial CO2 waste and converting it into valuable chemicals and products. The ICO 2 NIC project will capture CO 2 using advanced polymer membrane technology, which will then be converted into formic acid through a novel electrochemical cell. This formic acid will be further processed into high-value products The project supports environmental sustainability and long-term CO2 reduction, particularly in hard-to-abate industries.
