On 29 April 2026, our partner Avantium took the stage at the CO₂-based Fuels and Chemicals Conference, presenting progress in electrochemical CO₂ conversion.
In her presentation, “Powering the Future: Advancing Electrochemical CO₂ Conversion with the WaterProof Project”, Annelie Jongerius (R&D and Program Manager at Avantium) shared key results from four years of collaboration within the WaterProof project. Highlights included advancements in catalyst and electrode development, as well as progress in process and cell engineering, all coming together in a state-of-the-art automated demonstration unit for CO₂-to-formic acid conversion.
The presentation strongly emphasised the role of collaboration in driving these innovations forward.
Looking ahead, Annelie addressed upcoming challenges and future directions, highlighting the ICO₂NIC project as a key next step to build on this momentum and further advance CO₂ valorisation technologies.
