Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant (BBEPP) is an independent, state-of-the-art facility supporting the development and scale-up of biobased processes, from laboratory experiments to multi-ton production. With flexible modular equipment and deep technical expertise, they help translate promising lab protocols into viable industrial processes.
In ICO₂NIC, BBEPP plays a key role in bringing biotechnological innovations to pilot scale, supporting the transition from research to real-world applications.
Scaling microbial protein production: BBEPP will scale up microbial protein fermentation to provide the bulk quantities required for rigorous downstream testing and validation.
Scaling microbial oil production: In collaboration with project partners, BBEPP will also scale up formate-based microbial oil production to 1,500 L fermenters, generating pilot-scale quantities for further validation.
Through its advanced pilot infrastructure and expertise in fermentation, biocatalysis and downstream processing, BBEPP enables ICO₂NIC technologies to move from the laboratory toward industrial demonstration.
