The EMPHATICaL project, entitled “Efficient Methanol from Pumped Heat and Calcium Looping”, focuses on the transition of metallurgical industries to zero-emissions and circular processes. The aim is to introduce technological innovations to competitive renewable electricity, efficient CO2 utilisation, and produce versatile products like methanol. The project will build a first-of-a-kind demonstrator to establish economic viability and sustainability for achieving net zero in electrified metallurgical and methanol production.

The WaterProof project aims at developing an electrochemical process that converts CO₂ emission captured from consumer waste incineration and wastewater treatment facilities into formic acid to be used in valuable green consumer products such as cleaning detergents and the tanning of fish leather apparel. Additional products of the electrochemical process are peroxides that can be applied to remove pharmaceuticals and pesticides from wastewater.
